NEXEN AIR CHAMP CLUTCH APPLICATIONS Nexen Clutch and Brake on Carpet Tufting Machine Problem A carpet manufacturer uses several high-speed tufting machines to produce carpet, feeding several hundred strands into each machine. However, when one strand breaks the machine must be stopped, the break spliced and the machine jogged into the starting position again. This start/stop/jog cycle occurs on the average of five times a minute, 24 hours a day, six days a week. The 15 hp, 1750 RPM brake motors designed into each machine were averaging one rewind per week because of the strain on the motors. Solution Replacing the brake motors with Nexen H 1000 clutches and T/S 1000 brakes (both with quick exhaust valves) eliminated the regular repair downtimes, thereby increasing productivity. back to clutch applications page
