High-Torque Clutches for Press Drive
Problem
Nexen engineers were asked to design a package that would enhance the capabilities of a drive on a modular-design business forms machine.
Solution
Performance was enhanced through the use of two Nexen 5H35P tooth clutches and one 4H35P-H multi-plate clutch. Under normal operation, the 4H35P-H is disengaged and power is transmitted through the vertically-mounted 5H35P-SP clutch coupling. During a setup period, the 1 hp auxiliary motor drives through the 4H35P-H multi-plate clutch and the clutch coupling is disengaged. At the far end of the connecting shaft is a companion 5H35-SP with a 1:1 ratio gear drive powering the ink roll shaft. Clutch engagement is optional depending upon the operation. Both 5H35P-SP clutches ensure precise, identical shaft alignment every time.
