HORTON EC450 FAN CLUTCH
The EC450 Fan Drive features fully on/off electromagnetic engagement. The system includes a thermal switch and refrigerant pressure switch that engage the fan drive only when coolant temperature or air conditioning system pressure calls for increased airflow (typically 10-percent or less of total driving time). This design produces more accurate temperature control, within a narrower range, resulting in faster warm-up and improved fuel economy. It also provides more effective cab heating, more efficient air conditioning system operation and a reduction in drag that returns horsepower to the drivetrain (a viscous drive slips at high speeds and is never fully disengaged).

Light- and Medium-duty Applications
The EC450 is designed for light- to medium-duty diesel engines without onboard compressed air, as an upgrade from a viscous or direct drive fan drive. Current diesel engine applications include the Cummins B, Caterpillar 3116 and Navistar I6 and V8, to name only a few. Light-duty aftermarket applications include delivery trucks and passenger pickup trucks (primarily Dodge Ram with Cummins diesel engine). Medium-duty applications range from Navistar, Chevrolet C-Series and GMC TopKick® trucks and buses, to Oshkosh, Ottawa, Ford and Freightliner medium-duty vehicles.
