WISPROFLOC is the general name of three floculating agents and floculating aids: a non-ionic, a cationic and an anionic grade. These promote the flocculation by adsorption onto dispersed particles. In some cases, however, colloidal impurities are not fully flocculated unless an coagulating agent like lime, aluminium sulphate, iron sulphate or iron chloride is added to the water in advance. If coagulating agents already forma a pat of the process, the use of WISPROFLOC-grades may lead to an important reduction in the usual dosages of these agents.
WISPROFLOC-grades have a number of special properties:
- They easily dissolve in cold water
- They are non-corrosive
- They are harmless to health
- Their taste is neutral
- They are effective in a wide pH range
- Small doses of WISPROFLOC promote the sedimentation of dispersed impurities considerably
- Even very small impure particles which are normally caught on the filters are precipitated in sedimentation basins. This means a substantial relief of filter action and faster water transport
- Flocs formed by WISPROFLOC-grades are stable and will not form a slimy layer on the filter which could block the water passage
- WISPROFLOC-grades increase the capacity of water purification installations considerably
Important application fields are:
- Drinking water: The processing of surface water for conversion to drinking water
- Factory water: Treatment of mill water - steamboilers, and process water - born from surface water
- Industrial waste water: Treatment of waste water born from a.o. galvanic, metal processing industries, paper and cardboard mills, coal and ore mines and sugar mills
- Effluent water: Treatment of effluent water and sludge suspensions.
