Exhaust Gas Flow Rate Determination

Catalytic converters are sized based on the engine exhaust gas flow rate. Please choose one of the following methods to determine the exhaust gas flow from your engine.

Note: This calculator will select catalyst options from Nett's standard product lines designed for mobile engines. If you require a larger catalyst size, such as those used for large stationary engines, please contact Norman G. Clark directly.

Method 1: Provide Exhaust Gas Flow Rate

Your catalytic converter should be sized for the maximum exhaust gas flow. Please provide the flow rate at the rated speed and 100% load condition, as specified by the engine manufacturer.

Exhaust Flow Rate

Exhaust Temperature

Exhaust System Configuration
Single tailpipe, 1 catalytic converter per engine
V configuration, 1 converter per bank (2 converters per engine)

Preferred system of units:
Metric
Imperial

Method 2: Estimate Exhaust Flow Rate from Engine Power Rating

The estimate generated through this form applies to diesel engines only. DO NOT use for SI engines.

Engine Rated Power

Exhaust System Configuration
Single tailpipe, 1 catalytic converter per engine
V configuration, 1 converter per bank (2 converters per engine)

Preferred system of units:
Metric
Imperial

Method 3: Estimate Flow Rate from Engine Speed and Displacement

This estimate, based on assumed volumetric efficiency factors, tends to somewhat underestimate gas flow rates from newer engines with sophisticated turbocharging and aftercooling systems.
