Pactene
PACTENE is a brand of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), a useful plastic for many industrial and engineering needs. It has the following properties:
- Molecular weight approximately 4 million (Light Diffusion Method)
- Low specific weight 0.94g/cm3
- Extremely high notch impact strength
- High
elasticity - Chemical resistance to most corrosive agents
- Self lubricating
- Unusually low abrasion guarantees long life
- Water repellent
- Favourable electrical properties permit many uses in the manufacture of electrical devices, especially high voltage and high frequency devices
- No sticking or freezing to the surface
- Physiologically harmless, as used in food industry
- Stable to -260oC Used in cryogenics and freezing.
- No deformation caused by swelling
There are also several variations to Pactene, which include pile driver grade, porous grade, glass bead filled for extreme compression and abrasion resistance, anti-static grade, flame resistant grade, as well as assorted colours available on quote. It can be machined or heat formed, but cannot be flow moulded. Some of Pactene's applications include:
