How it works
How a Centrifugal Clutch Works
Speed does the work – no outside power.
Flyweights and Springs
Flyweights sit around a hub on the driving shaft, held in by springs, with friction linings on their outer faces. At rest – and at low speed – the springs keep the linings clear of the drum, so the motor starts with no load.
Engage with Speed
As the shaft speeds up, centrifugal force throws the flyweights outward against the springs. At the engagement speed the linings press on the inside of the drum and friction transmits the torque – without slip once at operating speed.
No Power Needed
Because it works on a physical principle, a centrifugal clutch or brake needs no external supply – which also makes it a natural choice for safety and speed-limiting applications.
