About us

A Melbourne Family Company Since 1919

The business was established in Melbourne, Victoria in 1919 by Norman Gray Clark, an importer, indentor and merchant of various chemicals and materials for general industry. Still 100% owned and managed by the founder’s family, we continue a long standing commitment to Australian manufacturing.

A family business

Still Owned and Run by the Clarks

Norman Gray Clark quickly established himself in business and prospered in the growing post-war economy, such that he was able to survive recession and war during the 1930’s and 1940’s. John Boyd Clark and Norman Kerr Clark returned from active service in World War 2 and joined their father’s business. They worked alongside him until his death in 1951.

John Boyd Clark and Norman Kerr Clark both retired in 1987 and sold the business to John Clark’s two sons, John Robertson (Rob) Clark and Norman Anthony Boyd (Tony) Clark.

License agreements granted to us in 1963 by the Schilling family, still our highly valued friends & colleagues, continue to the present time. The Horton & Nexen products we manufacture in Australia today, remain a cornerstone of the business.

As we approach a much anticipated milestone, the Clark family sincerely thanks and acknowledges all employees, from every era, for their magnificent loyalty and unfailing service.

Without our customers, this centenary would not have been possible.

John R Clark, Managing Director – 17th May 2018
