Horton Fan Drives – Made in Melbourne
A fan drive turns the engine cooling fan only when the engine needs it, saving fuel and power and cutting noise. Norman G Clark makes Horton on/off, two-speed and fully variable fan drives in Melbourne – for trucks, buses, mining, farm and off-highway machines. Horton has more than three million fan drives in service.

How it works
How a Fan Drive Works
Cooling only when the engine needs it.
Off Most of the Time
An engine cooling fan can absorb a lot of power. A fan drive (fan clutch) leaves the fan free-wheeling – or turning slowly – until the coolant, charge air or A/C needs more airflow. That saves fuel and power, cuts noise and lets the engine warm up faster.
On When It’s Hot
When the engine controller calls for cooling, a solenoid valve changes the air signal and the drive locks the fan to the pulley. Horton drives are spring-engaged and air-released: if air pressure is lost, the fan comes on, so the engine stays cool – fail-safe.
Made to Be Rebuilt
Linings, bearings and seals wear. A Horton repair kit restores the drive to its original specification for less than a new one – and Norman G Clark makes the drives and kits in Melbourne.
