Safety Chucks – VT and Classic C
Boschert safety chucks hold the winding shaft at each end, carry the torque and lock shut while turning. Choose the VT chuck with quick, cheap-to-replace wear parts, or the low-cost Classic C chuck – foot or flange mounted, with or without a shaft end.

How it works
How a Safety Chuck Works
Hold the shaft, drive it, and never let it go.
Square Drive
Each end of the winding shaft has a square journal. It drops into the chuck’s square insert, which carries the drive or brake torque to the shaft.
Locked Shut
A handwheel swings over the journal and locks it in. The chuck can’t open while the shaft turns, so the shaft can’t jump out – then it opens fully so a crane or hoist can lift the shaft straight out.
VT: Replaceable Wear Parts
On VT chucks, the parts that touch the journal are separate VT wear parts. When they wear, you swap them – quickly and cheaply – instead of replacing the chuck, and their hardness can be matched to your shaft journals.
VT or C?
Two Proven Designs
VT: Low Running Cost
Replace only the VT wear parts – quick, cheap, short lead time and low stock cost.
VT: Flexible
Wear part size, shape and hardness to suit your shaft journals.
C: Simple
A low-cost chuck for ordinary use – the industry standard since 1948.
Both
Chromed handwheel, rubber finger guard, foot or flange mounting.
