Clutches
Nexen products provide torque in clutches, brakes, torque limiters, and coupling products. The power transmission product line includes a variety of designs that interface with imperial and metric components.
Nexen units fit industry-standard motors, gear reducers, pulleys, sprockets, shafts and couplings. All products are well-engineered and ruggedly built to the highest standards.
Friction Clutches
Nexen’s single-disc, self-adjusting Clutches mount on a driving or driven shaft. They cover transmitted horsepower ratings from fractional to 25 hp, torque ratings to 5000 in-lb with thermal capacities to 2.5 thermal horsepower, and maximum operating speeds to 3600 rpm. Most are available in Sheave, Pilot, or Coupling Mount versions.

Tooth Clutches
Nexen offers an extensive selection of nonslip engagement clutches for applications where high torque is needed. Inexpensive to operate and maintain, these clutches provide all the torque you need in a small package. Nexen offers clutches in inch and metric mounting dimensions to fit a wide variety of applications.
Nexen’s tooth clutches are ideal for:
- Positioning
- Reversing/Multiple Speed
- Disconnect
- Positive Drive
- Braking (Spring-engaged tooth clutches provide ultimate holding when mounted as a brake.)
Available Output Types
Pilot – The tooth clutch output has a bolt circle flange with a male pilot. Flexible misalignment coupling assemblies are available for in-line coupling applications; and fit pilot output clutches.
Flange – The tooth clutch output has a bolt circle flange with a female pilot. Not for radial loads from pulleys, sprockets, etc. Anything attached to the output flange requires its own bearing support.
Integral Sprocket – Tooth clutch output has one or multiple integral chain sprockets.
Available Engagement Positions
Non-Positioning – The clutch engages at as many positions as the unit has teeth (between 36 and 328 teeth, the exact number listed on each product’s info page.)
Positioning – The clutch engages at a defined position (or positions). 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 8 engagement position units are available for the exact registration of machine components. Contact Nexen for other configurations.
Available Housings
Open or IP55 sealed housings are available. Nickel-plated housings are also available.
Available Hub Styles
Through bore with keyway, optional hub clamp collars are available.
Applications
Nexen’s tooth are inexpensive to operate, maintain and repair and provide all the torque you need.
Application includes:
- Accurate Positioning
- Disconnect
- Positive Drive
- Reversing/Multi-speed
- Stopping/Holding
- Filling and Capping machines
- Dynamometers
- Hydrostatic drive systems
- Reversing/multi-speed
