Nexen torque limiters
Stop a Jam Before It Stops Your Line
If a machine jams, a torque limiter cuts the drive straight away – before the gearbox, conveyor or product is damaged. Once the jam is cleared, it reconnects in exactly the same position, so the machine stays in time.

- 3,130 N·mmax. torque (27,700 lb·in)

The range
Torque Limiters, Couplings and Controls
TL-A Set Screw Mount
The main range. Open design, fixed to the shaft with set screws. Each size comes in a standard and a low-torque (/2) version.
- 16 parts
- 20.9–3,130 N·m (185–27,700 lb·in)
- up to 2,000 rpm
TL-A-E Enclosed
Fully enclosed and nickel plated for wash-down areas. Meets USDA and NEMA specifications.
- 10 parts
- 45.2–1,220 N·m (400–10,820 lb·in)
- up to 1,650 rpm
TL-AC Set Collar Mount
Clamped to the shaft with a collar. Sizes TL20 to TL80, in standard and low-torque (/2) versions.
- 12 parts
- 45.2–3,130 N·m (400–27,700 lb·in)
- up to 1,800 rpm
Metric TL-A & TL-AE
Open and enclosed models for metric shafts and gearboxes.
- 15 parts
- 21–1,350 N·m (186–11,948 lb·in)
- up to 2,000 rpm
Air Controls & SmartValve
The air kits that set the limit – single or dual pressure – and the SmartValve electronic controller.
- 4 parts
Overload Protection System (OPS)
A clutch with an electronic monitor. It spots slipping and disconnects the drive on overload.
- 6 parts
Flexible Couplings
Join a torque limiter to a shaft in line with it. They allow for slight misalignment, have no play and need no grease.
- 14 single & 14 double flex
- up to 5,230 N·m (46,300 lb·in)
Mechanical Torque Limiters
Spring-set, so no air supply is needed. They reconnect in one position, every 60°, or by hand.
- No air needed

How it works
How Torque Limiters Work
A torque limiter is a deliberate weak link. Set it just above what the machine needs to run, and it lets go before anything else breaks.
Protect the Drive
On a conveyor, a torque limiter sits on the gearbox output. When something jams, it disconnects the drive and its sensor stops the motor – before the gearbox or the product is damaged.

Air or Mechanical
Air-engaged TL limiters let you change the trip point with air pressure. Mechanical torque limiters use springs instead, so they need no air, and come with coupling, collar or keyed mounts.

Where to Set the Trip Point
Work out the torque the machine needs to run, then set the limiter a little above it – high enough not to trip in normal running, low enough to trip on a jam.
Torque from power and speed
Torque = 9,550 × kW ÷ rpm × service factor (the Air Champ catalogue’s 63,000 × HP × K ÷ rpm, in metric). A guide only – we’ll check heat and cycling with you.
Why air-engaged
Change the Limit Without Stopping the Line
Adjust from Anywhere
Set the trip point at the air regulator, or from the control panel with the SmartValve controller. No tools, no shutdown.
Stays in Time
It always reconnects in the same position, so filling, cutting and indexing stay lined up.
Extra Torque to Start
A dual air system gives a higher limit for start-up, then drops back to the normal limit.
Ready for Wash-Down
Enclosed TL-A-E models keep water and dirt out, so they suit food and drink lines.
